On to Cazenovia
posted on Tuesday, May 30, 2006
The team is travelling to Syracuse this week-end for the Cazenovia Ultimate Tournament (preliminary schedule). This tourny was a blast last year and the team will no doubt take time off from its busy schedule again for sidetrips to Manlius, NY and the Dinosaur BBQ.

The big question is, who's going to drive down with T-Webb this year? Calling "shotgun" has a whole different meaning when you're riding with the Deer Hunter!
Best o' luck gents!
P.S. I managed to get back into the UPA Firebird page and updated the roster and web url... click here to check it out. It has results from White Mountain. Someone just needs to have UPA membership (username and password) to get in there and finishing the editing.
The quick and dirty on CUT:
Wet, wet, wet, cold and a little windy. D was great. O needs some work.
We lost games more because we couldn't connect on the deeps, couldn't get decent upwind flicks off (speaking of myself in particular), and had a few dropsies. I guess the stats will give a better picture, but I don't know what we were able to record because the Palm Pilot seemed to have died on Saturday.
D line was pretty damn good. The force was backhand pretty much all weekend except in our last game against Vermont who had a couple of great handlers. Zone was put on a few times too, which was hit and miss if I remember correctly. The wet weather meant tons of layouts with Pepin's Callahan the highlight for the weekend. Too bad the stats machine didn't keep longest slide. Hagan had at least a 15 footer and I can't remember who it was with the Dukes of Hazard slide out the back down and up a gully...Hunter?.
O-line faced a lot of different types of defense, which was good for learning. Some 4 man zone, some poaching in the lanes, and a flick force for just about every game. Play calling worked fairly well with only a few screw ups. In general we need to work on throwing flicks upwind and throwing with touch. There were a bunch of overthrown hucks or low bullets that were easily D'd. We're also a bit stagnant at getting the disc moving.
On the plus side, I think everyone had a good time despite the weather and scores. Best of all was that the team stayed upbeat and positive no matter what happened in each game.
My 2 cents,
G.
Pics from CUT are up!
